Granada isn’t just stunning Moorish castles and cobblestone streets, it’s also home to one of Spain’s most iconic culinary staples: tapas!

While tapas can be found across the country, Granada’s tapas scene offers something special. At every bar in the city, drinks come with free tapas, ranging from small bites to full dishes. Many bars even give you a menu for you to make your own selection! Here’s a list of seven of my favorite tapas bars across the city.

Always full of locals and visitors alike, Bar Poë is a can’t-miss tapas bar. You can select which dish you’d like from their menu, which offers dishes with chicken, pork, fish, and even vegan options. While you really can’t go wrong, I highly suggest trying #2, Pollo en Salsa Thailandés (Chicken in spicy Thai sauce) and #5 Pincho de Cerdo y Piña (Skewer of grilled pork and pineapple).
Situated in the hills of the Albaicín, Granada’s Moorish neighborhood known for its steep winding streets and whitewashed houses, La Fragua is a local spot for simple (but filling) tapas. While you cannot choose which tapa will accompany your drinks, you’re guaranteed a delicious traditional dish. Plus, with every round of drinks, they bring you a new dish to try. Afterwards wander over to Mirador de San Nicolás for an unforgettable view of the Alhambra.
La Taberna de Kafka is one of the coziest tapas bars in the city. The welcoming atmosphere, extensive Spanish wine selection – displayed on a blackboard above the bar with information about each varietal, and unique tapa menu consisting of soups and tacos make it a hotspot for locals. Occasionally they also host performances by local poets and musicians.
Rosario Varela is a great spot for tapas or a full dinner, offering a modern spin on traditional Spanish tapas.
Located at the bottom of the Albaicín, La Buena Vida Tapas is in the center of Granada’s bar scene. It sets itself apart with a long list of tapas to choose from, many of which come as huge portions. While there is often a wait for a table on the weekends, it’s usually easy to get a table during the week or before 9PM on the weekends.
A traditional tapas bar through and through. Cheap drinks, traditional bites.
Perhaps one of the most well-known tapas bars in the area, Bodegas Castañeda is always lively and offers traditional tapas in a space dating back to 1927.
